Easing the Teething Blues Thanksgiving in North America

“I love Thanksgiving because it is a holiday centered around food and family, two things that are of utmost importance to me.”
    – Marcus Samuelsson

Happy November from all of us at Teddy Bear Children’s Dentistry!

Since Covid-19 is still ongoing, Dr. Da Fonseca is planning a very simple and intimate Thanksgiving dinner. This is not the norm and though she’s grateful to be able to celebrate, she will definitely miss having a large family gathering this year. Due to her husband being from the South and Dr. Da Fonseca being from South America there is usually a combination of delicious dishes like her mother-in-law’s smoked turkey, ham, mac & cheese, candied yams, cornbread dressing, different varieties of cornbread, potato salad, mashed potato, a nice salad, farofa, and collard greens Brasilian style.

This year’s menu will be a scaled-down version of that. For dessert, her family loves something warm like a slice of warm pumpkin pie, warm sweet potato pie, pecan pie, or a coconut Brasilian flan. This year they’re going to try to make a pumpkin soufflé using Julia Child's basic soufflé recipe and make the adjustments for pumpkin.

Though she has to keep her thanksgiving gathering small this year, she’s thankful that now more than ever it’s easy to stay in touch with extended family. With the help of technology we are all able to stay connected through FaceTime, WhatsApp, and other methods so we’re never too far away to talk to our family members located across the US and abroad.

This year there is truly so much to be grateful for. First and foremost, Dr. Da Fonseca is thankful for her good health and the wonderful people in her life. With age, we become less judgmental and more understanding of others. More importantly though, we become more compassionate to those who need help. As we get older we are also very grateful that we are able to continue to live an active lifestyle in community with others. Dr. Da Fonseca is also particularly grateful to have a fantastic team that makes work so enjoyable. The whole team of Teddy Bear Children’s Dentistry is grateful for all of the great parents who are still taking good care of their kids oral health even during these strenuous times.

Not only is it important to show gratitude this time of year but also to give back to your local community. Dr. Da Fonseca and her family are very involved with their church so they usually participate in Thanksgiving dinner donations, gift bags, and other volunteer opportunities.

In other office news, Teddy Bear Children’s Dentistry decided to extend the current promotion until the end of December. Call our office to learn more!

We wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and hope to see you in the office again soon!
