Space Maintainers

Sometimes a primary, “baby” molar tooth may fall out early because of things like trauma, an infection, or due insufficient space in the mouth. If the permanent tooth underneath this baby tooth is not close to eruption, a space maintainer may be necessary.

A space maintainer is a small appliance used due to insufficient space to hold space for permanent teeth until they are fully developed and ready to erupt in the future.
